Text by Alys Mackyntoich based on a Bohemian charter of 22 February 1238 (http://epistolae.ccnmtl.columbia.edu/letter/853.html)
Edward, by grace king of the East, and Thyra, queen by agency of the same grace, to all who will see this charter extend greetings and the witness of truth to this writing.
Whereas the dignity of our nobility and royal mercy demands that we give benign and favorable assent to the just requests of all, so that anyone may enjoy the presence of our mercy for his necessity and need, but also to increase the tranquility and governance of our realm; and
Whereas, Rhiannon de Carreg Cennen has these many years stood as our benevolent right hand overseeing the lands of Settmour Swamp, ensuring that all of our subjects of the aforesaid lands have enjoyed the presence of our mercy for their necessity and need, and providing the consolation of our protection and fostering comfort in our name and the names of our ancestors of blessed memory;
Therefore, in recognition of the said Rhiannon’s continuous labors, untiring good will, and assiduous hospitalities we do now by this present charter endow and invest the said Rhiannon with the status, station and repute of a Baroness of our Court, the said status, station and repute to be possessed perpetually by her without counter-claim, and do further grant her arms for her sole, exclusive, individual and perpetual use: Gules, a unicorn's horn throughout between two dolphins urinant respectant Or.
We have had this document written so that that already oft-mentioned Rhiannon may enjoy the favor of our regard and all of the rights, privileges and pre-eminences appertaining thereto for all of her days to come; and so that no one presume to infringe on this grant and recognition by audacious boldness, we have fortified the present page by our signatures. Enacted in the forty-seventh year of our Society at the feast of the Mud’s Thawing, that being 23 March.
